Sunshine's Miracle
Hi! My Mommy calls me Sunshine! She says I light up the world when I smile! Mommy says I'm a beautiful! I am four years old. I am a girl. I was diagnosed with spina bifida before I was born. That means my spine was open and it wasn't supposed to be. Daddy found some wonderful doctors who repaired that before I was born. I have 2 birthdays, sorta. One when I was taken out of my mother so Dr Noel B. Tulipan, M.D. could close my back and another when I was born to stay. I also have neurogenic bladder. I was 4 months when the doctors gave me a vp shunt for hydrocephalus. It was revised when I was 6 months old. Those are the only surgeries I have had for that. I have had my tonsils and adenoids removed. I have had only four surgeries total! That is very good! I have some language/cognitive delays, but that is not because of the spina bifida or shunt, but because of the conditions I was in before I joined my new family. I had surgery before I was born and I am a MIRACLE! I can walk, run and climb! I love my family! I love to sing Praises to God when I play or ride in the car. I am very happy! |

January 2008 Sunshine spent 3 days in a hospital in Topeka, Ks. We were in Topeka because PB & Kitty were accepted as student ambasators to Ireland England and Wales when Sunshine got very sick. We took her to the ER because we were afraid her shunt was failing. Thank God it wasn't. She had a UTI and was dehydrated. It came over very quickly. Anyway, we were not prepared to stay in Topeka but a few hours. Kenny (or me when he was with Sunshine) and the three other girls stayed at the Ronald McDonald House there. They are wonderful! If you ever get a chance to donate, please do.

July 2, 2008 Sunshine had surgery at Children's Mercy in Kansas City, Missouri. The surgery was to enlarge her bladder and may a place for her to cath herself at her belly button. This will give her more independence and greatly improve her quality of life. Everyone at the hospital was great. She is now home and doing well.
